In this book, The Hunger Games, the heroine Katniss Everdeen describes her stories in first person. This story take place in a utopia society. At the beginning of the story, Katniss give a brief account of the background of this dark age. Many years ago, there were 13 districts in north America. To resist the authoritarian government, district 13 launched war. Unfortunately, district 13 was completely defeated and destroyed. To avoid violence, district 1 set up a utopia society and enslaved districts with powerful armies. In this utopia, each district has its own task. District 12 Katniss live in is mainly responsible for mining. In order to achieve the purpose of awing every district, the government designed a game called The Hunger Games in which each district is forced to sent a young man and a young woman called tributes to participate. During this cruel game, the only goal is to kill other tributes and become the only winner.
In the draw, Katniss’s little sister Primrose Everdeen was chosen to be a tribute on behalf of district 12. To protect her sister, Katniss asked to be the volunteer. She and Peter the male tribute boarded the train to the district 1. On the train, they met their future mentor, Haymitch Abernathy, a former winner from district 12. When he arrived in the capital, Haymitch taught them many practical survival skills and helped them find a good fashion designer, Cinna. He designed a dress with fire for them, which attracted the attention of many sponsors at the pre-game banquet.
The game began, they and other district tributes were sent to a man-made forest. There is a pile of weapons and supplies before them. Instead of rob that material, she went to the forest. She chose to survive on the field rather than fight with others. Though she had escaped the battle, he was caught in a forest fire. Her leg was burnt. Because she won a lot of attention from sponsors before the game, she got the drugs from the sponsors. After her was healed, she met Peter. He has already. Peter has joined a team of players from other districts. Just as they were about to kill her, Pete saved her and took her away. Katniss poisoned the rest of the team with bees. They survived all kinds of hardships. They were left alone at the end of the game. But the game only allows one survivor. They had fallen in love with each other, so they decided to take poison together. But the government also understood that there had to be one survivor per game, so the government compromised and allowed both of them to be winners.
People from all the districts watching the live broadcast were shocked. The game is a symbol of the authority of the government, and now someone has come out against the rules of the game, and the government has compromised. In people's eyes, they are acting against the dictatorship. They represent freedom. A revolution is brewing……
The story shapes the hero and heroine who dare to love and hate. They fight for love and dare to die for love. They seem to be fighting for themselves, but for the people who are oppressed by the government, they're fighting for freedom. This became the trigger for a popular revolution to overturn the government.
